Don’t Let Perfect get in the way of Possible!

For the past few weeks or so I have been working on a social media training program. I am planning on taking on the social media world and training businesses and individuals on how to use sites like facebook, myspace, craigslist, linkedin and twitter to grow, protect and define their brand.

Now I am not one of those people that strive for perfection all the time, but when I have a passion for something I really would like it to appear perfect. But there in lies the problem. There is no such thing as perfect. I must have spent 40% of my time trying to make my site http://blogtrainingacademy.com perfect. I changed logos 2 times, I changed the CMS (content management system) I am using from Joomla to wordpress, and then I changed site colors from grey and red to black and grey.So you would think that the site that I designed for my new venture was perfect NOPE……. as one of my friends said that most if not all sites are in constant state of beta.

So as I write this post I am asking myself how much time did I waste chasing a dream of perfection while damn near destroying possible.

There is no such thing as PERFECT, perfection does not exists at all. While we spend time trying to achieve perfection that possible opportunity is being passed by. People often say that they missed out on a PERFECT opportunity, but they really missed out on a possible opportunity. Possible is always attainable and perfect is never attainable.

I am resigned to the fact that my first social media class is possible, but will not be perfect. It is possible because of friends and family and my online community of people that encourage me daily.

Thank you to all that have made things possible in my life.

For the past few days I have been thinking hell it would be fun to run a Marathon. I have dated one woman who ran 3 marathons and a friend that jsut got finished running a half marathon. At the coffee shop that I frequent (but I don’t drink coffee) I met a woman with 1 kid and another on the way and she ran a marathon when she was 10 weeks pregnant. Well hell if she can run one while carrying a little one in her I can do it. Plus I think it is going to be a great way to drop all the weight that I want to drop.

So I am planning on running the Rock n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon on Nov 16, 2008. To say that I am excited about my decision is a understatement. Running the marathon will great for my health, but more than anything I know that my little girl will love to see me run. I can only imagine what her face will look like at the end!

So today I started walking….. each day I will do more and keep everyone up to date on my progress. I gots to get some cool running shoes……

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred – Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries – Most never happen.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less

Success vs. The Vampire

Today I went to visit a old employer. The company is a small web design firm and they also own one of the premier blogging indexes on the Internet.
When I went to meet with them, I never thought that I was going to meet a vampire. Yes a vampire, a blood and energy sucking person that lives to destroy ideas and dreams.
I was discussing one of my “next million dollar ideas” and from the sentence “hey this is a cool idea” I was told how it was not going to be successful and how it could not be done. As the fangs grew from vampire he spewed the word NO, and NO and ummmmmmm NO. The vampire sensed a creative idea and a “different” way of doing something so it started salivating and showed the vampire fangs. At first I started trying to prove my point, bringing out my stake but then after a moment I stopped and just bit my tongue.

I can waste my time and energy fighting off the vampire OR I can focus on growing and making my ideas a success.

So how does success deal with the vampire? Success has to understand that there is nothing that can be done to change the vampire or even influence the vampire. The vampire, either born as a natural vampire OR transformed over time, it is what it is …… a energy sucking and success deflating entity. We wonder if the vampire even knows of its behavior. Even if the vampire knows it is not my place to try to transform or even slay the vampire.

Never let a HOW get in the way of a great what!!!
