Hurrican Ike San Antonio Adopt a Shelter Program Trinity Tri-Point Shelter
September 21st, 2008
Last week I spent 3 days visiting the Trinity Tri-Point Special Needs Shelter in San Antonio, Texas. The Trinity TriPoint Shelter is a Level 4 Hospital with as many as 250 Special Needs evacuees (numbers fluctuate daily).
The shelter is now housing evacuees from Hurricane Ike after the storm destroyed a lot of Galveston and cut power to more than a million in Galveston. One of the evacuees at the shelter is my aunt Jennifer Smith. Luckily I am here in San Antonio to help provide comfort, get magazines, books, or anything she needs. I was also able to provide a cell phone from Cricket Wireless with unlimited minutes.
At first glance the Trinity Tri-Point Shelter looks to be a decent shelter but I have noticed that the temporary residents there are missing all the comforts of home.
There are very few books, no magazines, a TV that only has 2 stations a few DVD’s and that is really about it.
I am very proud of San Antonio for providing needed supplies to the Houston, Texas City, Baytown, and Galveston areas. Unfortunately San Antonio we still have more that we can do. I am calling on all businesses and citizens to come together again and Adopt a Shelter here in San Antonio. I am personally adopting the Trinity Tri-Point Special Needs Shelter at 281 and N. Saint Mary’s.

After looking at the shelter and speaking to a few residents and some of the nurses I have come up with things that I feel the shelter can use to give the evacuees a more comfortable living situation.
